India’s cybersecurity agency CERT-In has advised WhatsApp users on web and desktops to be careful while opening attachments.

According to a recent CERT-In advisory, attackers have been sending malicious Visual Basic Script (VBScript) files through WhatsApp messages.

Attackers are reportedly using compromised WhatsApp accounts to send these files, so that the messages appear genuine and users may be more likely to open the attachments.

What happens when you open such files?

  • Hackers can get remote access to your device.
  • They can steal passwords and sensitive information.
  • They can install additional malware.
  • They can disrupt personal or business operations.

  • Can carry out financial fraud.
  • So, if a file seems suspicious, DON’T OPEN IT.
