Eating out is set to get a lot more expensive
News illustration

The price of commercial LPG cylinders (used by restaurants) has jumped by ₹993 starting May 1.

A 19-kg cylinder now costs around ₹3,000+ in major cities. Domestic LPG prices are unchanged, but businesses are directly impacted.

Restaurants, hotels, and food vendors rely heavily on LPG, so their operating costs are rising sharply.

What's in it for you?

  • MAY GET COSTLIER TO EAT OUT OR ORDER IN: Restaurants and eateries may pass on the cost and eating out or ordering in may get more expensive.
  • MENU CHANGES: Several restaurants have been adapting to rising prices by removing items that use more fuel, or changing proportions.
  • MORE SHUTDOWNS?: Many restaurants and food outlets across the country had shut down over the past few months due to shortage of LPG. The price hike could force more such shutdowns.
